F1 | Chandhok: “Kubica? Teams must hire drivers for current performance, not based on past performance."

Former Formula One driver Karun Chandhok believes Robert Kubica, announced by Williams yesterday as reserve driver, has had opportunities to prove his worth and talent.

In fact, the Pole took several tests during 2017, first with Renault and then with Williams, the last of which took place on the Yas Marina track last November, which however chose Sergey Sirotkin for the post-Massa test.

"I'm sorry, it's a real shame. I've known Robert since the World Series, he's a good guy and before the accident he had a brilliant career, but I think he had several chances to get a seat. I can't think of any other drivers who have had the chance to test with two teams,” Chandhok told Autosport International.

"The reality is that teams cannot hire drivers based on their past, but must evaluate them based on their latest performance”, concluded the Indian driver.
