F1 | Carey: “We are happy to be able to announce the first 8 events of the 2020 calendar”

On Tuesday, Formula 1 and the FIA officially announced the first part of the 2020 season calendar of the top open-wheel championship. Given the situation of uncertainty at the health level and local regulations, at the moment Liberty Media has only been able to announce the first eight events of the world championship, while the rest of the calendar will only be communicated in the coming weeks, in order to have more time to organize with the promoters of non-European events.

The championship will start on July 5th in Austria, where the first of the two events that will be held in Spielberg will take place. Commenting on the news was the CEO of Formula 1, who was keen to thank all the parties involved for the availability and commitment shown: "In recent weeks, we have worked tirelessly with all our partners, the FIA and the teams to create a revised calendar for the 2020 season that would allow us to get back on track in the safest way possible. We are happy to announce that today we are able to communicate the first eight races of the calendar, publishing the rest of the dates on the calendar in the coming weeks. I would like to thank every promoter and partner for their support and commitment to Formula 1."

Carey also confirmed that the first rounds of the world championship will be behind closed doors, although the hope is to be able to host fans on the track again in the subsequent stages of the world championship if the conditions exist to do so: "While at the moment we expect that the season starts without fans on the track, we hope that in the coming months the situation will change and this will allow us to welcome them back when it is possible to do so, but we know that the return of Formula 1 will be a boost for all the fans", he said. concluded the CEO of Formula 1.
