F1 | Brawn: “The finale in Baku was an appetizer for the sprint qualifying”

Interviewed by the official Formula 1 website, Ross Brawn appreciated the spectacle offered by the last two laps of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the seventh round of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship, highlighting how the spirit put on the track by the drivers was an appetizer of those which will be the "Sprint Qualifying" starting from the Silverstone round. According to the General Director of Liberty Media, the "reduced" format of 17-20 laps will make the competition more intense and full of surprises, with the drivers having the opportunity to push 100% from the first lap and without thinking about strategies.

“I was pleased to hear several commentators appreciate the spectacle of the last two laps of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix,” said Ross Brawn. “They wanted ten more laps with the same intensity and I'm happy with this, because it was a real appetizer to the sprint qualifying”.

“These will be longer, between 17 and 20 laps, but will likely provide the same type of thrilling action. The drivers won't worry about the tires and this will certainly guarantee a different type of action compared to traditional racing.", concluded Stefano Domenicali's right-hand man.
