F1 | Boullier talks about Alonso: "he is like a shark, he goes straight to the goal"

The head of the McLaren Eric Boullier revealed the frustration of Fernando Alonso when last season he realized he couldn't be competitive for the title world. McLaren has shown positive signs of improvement this season, but in any case the results achieved fail to satisfy a great champion like Fernando Alonso, who would like to return to being very competitive. For the next one season the team's goal is obviously to return to high levels, especially with the engine change which will certainly give it an extra boost.

“I always compare it to one shark, because when he feels the blood he goes straight and therefore if he feels he can get on the podium or be competitive enough to be there together with his opponents, he won't even give an inch. Precisely for this reason the team will have pressure, but a positive one,” declared Eric Boullier a Motorsport.com. One of the tensest moments of 2017 was at Singapore Grand Prix, a race in which Alonso wasted possible points as he was involved in the accident at the start between the Ferraris and Red Bull in Verstappen. His frustration reached its peak when Fernando he punched a wall of the room reserved for McLaren drivers right after his retirement in Singapore: “Sometimes he has to express his frustration, but it was like this even when he won races, he is tense after a race, it was the same in Singapore, he has this anger inside of himself,” he added.

Thus, Boullier hopes a lot in the potential of McLaren, to be able to give Alonso a competitive car to best face the 2018 Formula 1 season: “Fernando prepares himself mentally during the winter and mentally designs what the season should be: this motivates him more, because he tries to stay focused on his goals. Not achieving these results is a mixture of sadness, humiliation and frustration,” he concluded.
