F1 | Binotto welcomes Domenicali: “It will be a pleasure to collaborate with a friend like him”

Through the official website of Scuderia Ferrari, Mattia Binotto welcomed Stefano Domenicali into the large Formula 1 family, underlining how the appointment of the Italian as CEO and President of Liberty Media will help the category to grow in the coming years.

Binotto worked closely with Domenicali during his management period at Ferrari, achieving victories and successes with first Michael Schumacher and later Kimi Raikkonen. A friendship that will almost certainly help the parties involved find a common direction regarding the technical and economic development of sport.

The former CEO and President of Lamborghini, we remember, will take on the role in an "exclusive" capacity starting from January 1st, but will join the current management with immediate effect. Chase carey, the resigning CEO will assume the role of "Non-executive Chairman".

“It is an important day for our sport, characterized by the announcement by Liberty Media of the appointment of Stefano Domenicali as President and CEO of Formula 1″, said Mattia Binotto. “On behalf of Ferrari, I would like first of all to thank Chase Carey: under his leadership a lot has changed, in a positive sense, in particular with regards to the approach to relations with the teams. Very important results have been achieved for the future of Formula 1 such as the new Concorde Agreement and the creation of an operational structure capable of growing the sport in terms of audience and appeal towards the new generations".

“Without forgetting the fact that we managed to organize a World Championship in a particularly difficult year like the one we are experiencing”, he added. “Knowing that Chase will remain close to Formula 1 in his role as non-executive Chairman is a guarantee of continuity that we greatly appreciate.”

On Domenicali he declared: “We are very happy that, from January 1st, the role of Chase will be covered by Stefano. His skills as a manager and, above all, as a sportsman make him the ideal person in terms of experience and personal skills to continue the path undertaken by Chase. Personally, I can only add that it will be a great pleasure to collaborate with a friend like him: we grew up together in Ferrari and I can't wait to work, together with all the other stakeholders of this sport, with him to make Formula 1 again stronger and more spectacular”.
