After Alfa Romeo Racing, which announced the renewal of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi last October 30, the only customer team that has not yet formalized the line up for 2021 is Haas. The American team should fill the empty seats left by Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen with a double addition Verde: Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher.
Speaking about the German son of art, currently leader of the Formula 2 championship, and the other drivers who are part of the FDA, Mattia Binotto admitted that someone will not be able to land in Formula One next season.
"As we said there is not room for everyone – declared the Red team principal, quoted by Formula1.com – I think they are all doing well in F2 if we consider Mick (Schumacher), Callum (Ilott) and Robert (Swartzman). They have a season to finish, they are all currently focused on the next race in Bahrain which is very important to them".
On Friday at the Nurburgring, both Schumi jr and Ilott should have made their debut in a world championship weekend, driving Alfa Romeo and Haas respectively, but the cancellation of track activities postponed everything to a later date. The debut could take place over the weekend in Abu Dhabi, the last stage of the 2020 World Championship, or everything could also be postponed by a few days to Young Test Driver which will also take place at the Yas Marina Circuit in mid-December.
"There will be the opportunity to race again in FP1 ad Abu Dhabi, then there may still be tests for young drivers in Abu Dhabi, but we make our decision and the decision will be made on how they developed their potential – added Binotto – Our goal is not to bring them to F1, it is to bring them to Ferrari one day in the red cars. It is not important what the road to reach it will be. There will be one of these drivers who will have a place in F1 next year, the others will have other opportunities and it is up to us to organize them".
