The German always hopes to return to fighting for the top positions

F1 | Aston Martin, Vettel: “I'm not here to race in the middle of the pack”

Sebastian Vettel, in an interview with Sky Sports, admitted that racing in the middle of the pack isn't that stimulating for him, fighting as hard as he can for the points. The German driver, four world titles in his career and 53 stage triumphs, after the last two difficult years in Ferrari (even if the Cavallino's last victory was his in Singapore in 2019) has rediscovered energy, elan and serenity in Aston Martin.

The German finished the Mexican GP with a good seventh place, finding the points for the second time in a row after the good comeback in Austin. Sebastian appeared in excellent form in the two American races, and does not hide the fact that he still cultivates important ambitions.

“Crossing the finish line in the top positions or in the middle of the field is not the same thing, when you win or get on the podium you feel the enthusiasm of the people, it's a completely different feeling - the words of Vettel, who then continued - Now if I finish eighth or ninth I feel like I've had a good race, without mistakes, that I've achieved a good result, but honestly that's not why I'm in Formula 1. Maybe he's spoiled, but I'm used to racing to win, to stay in front. Lawrence Stroll is a very serious person, the team works well, they are moving in a very promising way. However, it is impossible to set objectives because everyone wants to be competitive and win by taking advantage of the regulation change, and in any case there are currently stronger teams such as Mercedes and Red Bull. I always start on Sunday to win, but of course if we start between tenth and twelfth place it's not exactly the same as being on pole... in any case I have no regrets."
