Good performances by Lance Stroll's Aston Martin on the Portimao circuit, where the Canadian placed eleventh and ninth respectively in the two free practice sessions. Completely different situation for Sebastian Vettel, who is still experiencing some problems with the set-up. The situation improves in FP2, but the four-time world champion only manages to set the sixteenth and fifteenth best times.

"It wasn't easy to put together good laps, because the asphalt has more grip than last year's race, it's still quite complicated – Sebastian revealed at the end of the day – the wind also makes everything more complicated, but it didn't stop us from collecting laps after laps to complete our program. Every session is important to understand the car and try to improve it, which is why we are satisfied. The goal for tonight is to find the right set-up for qualifying and be sure to do the perfect lap tomorrow".

Different feelings, however, from Lance Stroll, once again ahead of his teammate.

"It's nice to be back in Portugal. This track is really fun and the elevation changes present a real challenge for those in the car. The conditions today were not ideal, and for this reason it is complicated to find the right balance for the car, but I think everyone said the same thing after today's free practice. We will try to recover tomorrow. The top ten cars are within six tenths, qualifying promises to be unpredictable, it will be a good show for the fans at home. I'm excited for tomorrow".
