F1 | Aston Martin, Green: “We can put Vettel in the right position”
"He integrated into the team very quickly," recalled the director of the English team
Aston Martin is also among the teams that presented themselves with a different line up compared to 2020 in the new season. The historic English brand, returning to Formula One as a constructor after more than six decades of absence and which will take Racing Point's place on the grid, has confirmed Lance Stroll alongside Sebastian Vettel.
Speaking of the German, who replaced Sergio Perez who moved to Red Bull, Aston Martin director Andrew Green believes that the four-time world champion has a simpler driving style than his predecessor. Quality that could allow a better performance for Gaydon's new standard bearer.
"His personal driving style is no different from the driving style we have seen from other drivers, and I would say not as extreme as the driver he is replacing, who had a very difficult driving style to achieve at all tracks – declared Green, quoted by Formula1.com – He shone on certain tracks and not on others. I think Seb's style is much less extreme and we have the tools and skills to tune the car to suit him for sure. We've already started working on it, we've been working on it in the simulator for the last month and he seems very happy with the direction we've taken, so no problems".
Green then, speaking about Vettel's adaptation to the new reality, added: “He integrated into the team very quickly, his contribution started straight away and I think we will get the best from Seb. He is at the top of his career, I think that if we can't get the best out of Seb it's our fault, not his. I am confident that we can put Seb in the right position".
Vettel's arrival brought freshness and ambition to Aston Martin: “He's working with the team, he's obviously a very nice guy but he's also incredibly knowledgeable and meticulous about how he works – said Green – Precisely for this reason we wanted him involved and we are starting to see how we can adapt to his way of working. It's different to the way we've worked before, but like I said that's exactly why we brought him in, to impart some of his knowledge and wisdom on us as a four-time world champion, that's exactly what we need".
