F1 | Aston Martin, Alonso: “I finished the race only for my mechanics”

St. Paul - Fernando Alonso closes the very tiring Brazilian weekend with a disappointing fourteenth position.

The beginning of the weekend already did not seem to promise anything good: the two Aston Martin are excluded from Q1 in Friday's qualifying and in the Sprint start from the pit lane, only to cross the finish line in the last positions. In qualifying, exceptionally on Sunday morning, Alonso crashes in Q3. The Spaniard starts from ninth position and stays in the points zone for most of the race. After more than forty laps, however, something stops working on his AMR24: Alonso goes long and finishes fifteenth, and it begins to the team that the car suffers from the bouncing in an unnatural way. The pain of the two-time world champion is evident on the radio: the pain in his back, due to the bouncing, is strong, but Fernando continues until the checkered flag, only to pay homage to the work of his mechanics, who in a few hours have repaired the car allowing him to take part in the race.

Alonso: “The mechanics did an incredible job, I did it for them”

“It was a tough day. We had to replace some components after the accident in qualifying, which is why the car was a bit slower. Then there was the problem with the brakes at the restart. Only in the second part of the race did the car start to suffer a lot from bouncing, and in other circumstances I would have retired,” revealed Fernando, “but the mechanics did an incredible job to prepare the car in time, I finished the race only because of them. These three consecutive races have not been kind to us. We will try to get back to being competitive for the last three races.”
