F1 | Hartley's denial arrives: "My job is not at risk"

The future of the pilot Toro Rosso has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, such as its likely replacement with pascal wehrlein.

In Azerbaijan he risked triggering a dangerous accident during qualifying with his teammate, Pierre Gasly. In Barcelona, he did not take part in qualifying due to the accident during the third free practice session.

This was enough for the German press to hypothesize the replacement with Wehrlein, rumors denied by them Brendon Hartley:

“This thing surprises me because I have a contract, and I also feel more and more comfortable behind the wheel of a Formula 1. There is a lot of criticism but obviously, speaking as a driver, I'm the first to be critical of myself. It's true, the last two weekends haven't gone well but in all honesty, I got my first point in Azerbaijan and at the start of the season, I preceded my teammate several times in qualifying. I don't know what sites these rumors are coming from but at the end of the day I know I'm a team player and I'm working hard behind the scenes. I know I'm more than capable and I think I've proven it.".

Hartley also added that he currently doesn't have the pace to be competitive in all races:

“I'm very satisfied with my race in Barcelona, we didn't have the pace to achieve anything more but I know I did what I could and I'm also happy with how I dealt with the accident. Obviously you never want this to happen and I will make sure it doesn't happen again but I'm not the only one who has had an accident and, it won't be my last accident. This is part of being a driver, I will go ahead and fight this weekend to have a good result.".

The New Zealand driver hopes that, given the characteristics of the Monaco circuit, Toro Rosso can be favoured:

“Here it will be a different story with the hypersofts because no one has ever tried them on a similar track. Everyone tested them in Barcelona where we know they last a maximum of one or two laps. Here, however, we expect a duration of 30 laps and the gains, in terms of performance, will be enormous. There were some positive races but there was only one race where we had the pace to get a lot of points but I was penalized and couldn't reach my goal. I know I will have my time and I am very motivated for this weekend where I hope to get a good result. I think people have few memories about Formula 1, things move very quickly and from one weekend to the next, the whole story can be completely different. I'm well aware of it.".
