F1 | Amarcord, 1974 Dutch GP: Ferrari double, Lauda triumphs

The edition of the 1974 Dutch Grand Prix, held exactly 44 years ago on the Zandvoort track, saw Ferrari's clear success.

The supremacy of the Cavallino team was clear and evident right from qualifying, where Niki Lauda took pole position in 1'18"31 ahead of teammate Clay Regazzoni by six tenths. Everyone else was further away, with Emerson Fittipaldi's McLaren even 1'25” behind the Austrian's best lap.

At the start of the race Lauda maintained the lead, while Regazzoni was overtaken by Mike Hailwood and Patrick Depailler.

In the following two laps the Swiss gets back behind Lauda, first getting the better of the Frenchman from Tyrrell at the legendary Tarzan curve and then on the main straight against the Briton from McLaren.

The two Ferrari 312 B3-74s therefore dictate the pace, distancing the rest of the group. Lauda thus crossed the finish line in first place, taking his second career victory after Jarama's victory a few months earlier, ahead of Regazzoni by around eight seconds.

For Ferrari it is the 29th double in their history. Completing the lowest step of the podium is Emerson Fittipaldi who, by virtue of third place, manages to maintain the lead in the World Championship but with just one point ahead of Lauda and three over Regazzoni.
