F1 | Another controversy over Racing Point: in 2021 it will have 2020 Mercedes parts and will not spend the tokens

The controversies around it don't seem to abate Racing Point. The RP20, under the magnifying glass of the paddock due to its incredible performances, so much so that Stroll improved by 3.2 seconds compared to last year in the Hungarian qualifications, is increasingly compared to the 2019 Mercedes. Tombazis and the FIA, took a bit around by the ruthless people of the web for not having carefully checked the car after the Barcelona tests, when they went to the factory in Silverstone at the request of the other teams, they will examine the brake air intakes in these days, which according to Renault are identical to the W10, and therefore the technical regulations would have been violated.

However, to hold court during these frenetic hours at the Hungaroring there would also be a flaw in the 2021 regulations, which according to Car engine and sport could create further controversy towards Racing Point. According to the German newspaper, by taking advantage of this regulatory loophole, in particular the one on homologations, it seems that the future Aston Martin will be able to use the gearbox and suspension of the 2020 Mercedes without spending the famous tokens, which are used to improve some parts of the single-seater : each team will have two available and will be able to use them to develop those parts of the car frozen by the regulations. Each piece gives a value to the token: for example, a suspension can cost one token, while a small part of it can only cost half a token.

In fact, this year Racing Point already uses some parts coming from the 2019 Mercedes, which can be purchased easily within the regulations, and this obviously could be an advantage given that the concept of the 2021 car will be that of the W11, always using the same this year's design method, as admitted by the technical director of the British team Andy Green himself to the German newspaper. So essentially, as long as Racing Point upgrades its car with parts from this year's Mercedes, it won't need to spend tokens in 2021 which it can then use to improve other areas of the future Aston Martin. The fear of the other teams is that Racing Point could make a very big step next year, while the other teams will essentially remain at the current point or little more.
