F1 | Alpine, Ocon disappointed: “There was potential for the top 10”

Esteban Ocon was unlucky in Baku during the qualifying session. Timing was evidently not on his side, with numerous red flags preventing him from improving with the new sets of tyres. In Q2, however, it was Ocon himself who touched the barriers in turn 3, damaging yet another attempt for a fastest lap. The traffic in Baku is unforgiving and the Frenchman stops in Q2, qualifying twelfth, while his teammate Alonso takes his Alpine to Q3, qualifying ninth. Everything is still possible in Azerbaijan, given the numerous twists and turns in past editions.

"It wasn't our day – explained Ocon – Q1 went well, but in Q2 there were several incidents. I had an impediment in turn three on my first attempt and was forced to touch the wall, then on the second attempt there was another red flag and I couldn't try anymore. It's frustrating, because the car has shown the potential to get into the top 10, but we'll get there tomorrow. Everything is possible with the pace we have; I can't wait to be in the race, it's always full of surprises here in Baku".
