As per the regulations, Alpine has decided to field Jack Doohan in the first free practice session of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the last round of the 2022 Formula 1 world championship. After his debut in PL1 in Mexico, the Australian returns aboard the A522, this time however in place of Fernando Alonso. Team principal Szafnauer said of him: “It is important to give our young people the opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car and the Academy program has often managed to achieve this objective." Doohan will also be on track for the last act of the 2022 Formula 2 championship with UNI-Virtuosi.
