F1 | Alpine, Alonso: “My age is an advantage”
"I'm at a moment in my life where I want to dedicate myself to F1, it's fantastic," admitted the Spaniard
With the retirement of Kimi Raikkonen, which occurred at the end of the Abu Dhabi race held on 12 December, Fernando Alonso with his 40 springs became the oldest driver on the starting grid.
An aspect, the personal one, which does not worry the two-time world champion in the slightest. In fact, the Spaniard from Alpine believes that it is a positive detail, especially for that dose of experience that can make the difference compared to other riders.
"Age is an advantage – declared Alonso, interviewed by Autosport – When I arrive at a circuit I know it. Now they test the 18-inch tyres, I know them very well from the WEC. Others are experiencing all the things I'm facing for the first time, while I'm experiencing them for the second or third. This is positive. The only problem with being better and better is to equip yourself with motivation to start a season in which you will be deprived of 300 days a year. You have to have that desire, you have to have that lifestyle that allows you to dedicate yourself to this sport. I'm at a point in my life where I want to dedicate myself to F1, it's fantastic. I only see advantages. Physically I think that today's cars are not very demanding. I think in 2004-2005, age was a limitation".
