F1 | Alpine, Alonso: “Thanks to the budget cap we are in the same conditions as the top teams”

The 2022 season is now upon us, and the new technical regulation, aimed at reshuffling the forces on the track a bit and bringing the performances between the various teams closer, is also creating great hopes for those teams that have had great difficulty in emerging in recent years . One of these is Alpine, in the midst of a managerial revolution, with Alonso as a top driver and eager to return to fighting for the positions that count more or less constantly, after the podium obtained in Qatar in November.

“We haven't solved all the problems yet, but we are well on our way – Alonso said to The Independent. Obviously, with the experience of working in different teams I have been able to see where we are weaker than others, but there are also areas where we are very ahead. I always try to make the team stronger and more prepared for 2022. At the moment we are in better shape than last March in Bahrain, but I'm sure we still have to fix something. We need to fill the gap with the engine, that's why there is this new project and we also need to work with the aerodynamics."

“It's difficult to know what the gap is, so at the moment we live on hope, but I understand that everyone is experiencing it like this, it's not just for us, we're about to enter completely unknown territory. However, I am optimistic: we have the right resources, and the commitment of Luca de Meo and Laurent Rossi, all of our management is focused on Formula 1. The budget cap should help, this puts us in the same economic conditions as the top teams."
