F1 | AlphaTauri, Yuki Tsunoda: “Performance drastically dropped in the race”

A tear-off visor stuck in the rear wing forces the Japanese to make an early pit stop

F1 | AlphaTauri, Yuki Tsunoda: “Performance drastically dropped in the race”

It was a torn visor that compromised Yuki Tsunoda's race: the Japanese, eighth at the start, had to bring his pit stop much earlier due to the plastic component stuck in his rear wing. Not only that: the AT02 had shown an excellent pace during the first two days on track - this was demonstrated by the performances of Gasly, fourth in qualifying and second at the start - but the car's performance suddenly collapsed in the race, at the crucial moment. Tsunoda is therefore unable to recover positions and, like his teammate, finishes the race outside the points zone in thirteenth position.

"It was a particularly tough race, I struggled a lot with the soft tyre, especially in the first stint – explained the rookie – we didn't expect it, because this week we had a good pace overall, while in the race it dropped drastically. We need to look back at the data and understand what and why it happened. It's a real shame, because Alpine had a good run, so we need to come back in the last two races".
