F1 | AlphaTauri, Tsunoda: “I hope to play for a place in Q3”

“Even though the first free practice sessions were interrupted, we still had a total of two hours on track, which was enough. Our balance is not bad, but it seems like we are struggling to find the rhythm during our performance runs – explained the Japanese – rain looks expected for tomorrow, so we will focus on wet conditions for the fast laps, with different sets of tires to use. We've done some long runs in the dry and the pace doesn't seem bad, but first let's see how tomorrow goes. We hope to be able to compete for a place in Q2 or Q3."

“I think it was a challenging day for everyone. Obviously the first practices were interrupted and so we had to change our work plan for the afternoon, but nevertheless I think we completed enough laps to be able to get a feel for the track. Tomorrow the conditions will be different again, rain is forecast, so a lot of work awaits us. The track is very different from that of Barcelona, more bumpy, narrow and with less grip; so, I will have to get used to it and make the necessary changes. Today we didn't do any laps in the rain, but grip already seems low in dry conditions, so we'll see how it goes in the wet."
