F1 | AlphaTauri, Pierre Gasly: “We knew it would be tough here”

Problems for Pierre Gasly at Silverstone. The French driver, who announced his renewal with AlphaTauri, is only eighteenth in FP2, more than 1.5s behind the leader Carlos Sainz. The Faenza team had to condense the two-session program into just free practice 2, but there was no shortage of problems. First the lack of grip with the AT03, then the engineers noticed aerodynamic damage on the car which made finding a good set-up difficult. More problems for AlphaTauri and Gasly, who together this season are unable to show the good potential already shown last year.

"At the start of the session we had some damage to the car and that made things even more complicated for us, but more generally we're missing quite a bit of pace. We are in difficulty in the fast corners and unfortunately this track has a lot of them – admitted the Frenchman – taking into account the characteristics of the track, we knew it would be tough here, but tonight we will work hard to understand what we can do to improve. We need to be at our best to make some steps forward, so that we can count on a better position on Sunday. Maybe it will rain tomorrow and it wouldn't be bad for us, but obviously we can't rely on it and we will have to work to find a little more performance in view of qualifying".
