F1 | AlphaTauri, Pierre Gasly: “We are not fully exploiting our potential”

The changes made to the AT02 don't seem to be working, but the Frenchman is still aiming for Q3

F1 | AlphaTauri, Pierre Gasly: “We are not fully exploiting our potential”

Difficult day for the AlphaTauri on the Portimao circuit. After some very positive performances over the past weekends, Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda failed to set any relevant times. The French driver managed to place himself in sixth position in the first free practice session, but the wind and the slippery track did not allow him to go beyond eleventh position in the afternoon. The AT02 seems to be very competitive with the harder compounds, with a very respectable race pace, while with the softer compounds the Faenza team's car encountered quite a few difficulties.

F1 | Free practice analysis – Ferrari, McLaren and AlphaTauri in form at Portimao: Verstappen hammers

"It was quite a difficult day, the car didn't perform very well and tonight we need to analyze the data and see what we can do to improve, as at the moment we are not fully exploiting our potential – these are the words of Pierre Gasly at the end of the day – compared to the last few races, we struggle with braking in the slow areas, so we need to take a look at what we have changed. Obviously, the conditions and layout of the track are very different, there is a lot of slipping here and therefore we may need to make some different changes than usual. The gaps in the middle of the group are minimal, two or three tenths can currently make you lose six or seven positions, qualifying will be crucial. I think I've gotten into Q3 in the last five or six races and I'd like to continue this streak: with the appropriate changes, we'll try to make sure that happens tomorrow".
