F1 | Alonso: “Schumacher is a step ahead of Hamilton”
"Lewis lost the title to Rosberg. Things like this have never happened to Michael", underlined the Spaniard
Lewis Hamilton is one step away from Michael Schumacher's record of 91 victories, which he could reach at the German's home circuit Nürburgring, and is also on the way to equaling the Kaiser's seven titles. The Englishman is undoubtedly rewriting the history of Formula One, but according to Fernando Alonso the German champion continues to be ahead of the current Mercedes driver.
The two-time world champion, who will next return to Formula One with Alpine (currently Renault), was lucky enough to compete against both with whom he often battled for the world crown.
"The hardest to beat? Difficult. These are different eras and cars with different performance levels. But I remember Michael as a hard driver to beat, one with the greatest talent – admitted Alonso, interviewed by Sport Bild – Lewis is very good and the best of his generation. But he didn't win the World Cup with McLaren when he was Jenson's teammate (Button, ed.). In Mercedes Nico Rosberg also won the World Cup. Things like this have never happened to Michael. He always won. For me Michael is a step forward".
