Despite the great work carried out with the team over the winter, Fernando Alonso still does not consider himself to be at the same level as Esteban Ocon.

According to the two-time World Champion, who returned to Formula 1 after three years of absence, the Frenchman is managing to maximize the performance of the car, an aspect that allows him to "pull off" not only good performances, but also important points for the team .

For his part, Fernando is trying to get to know the car and the characteristics of the package at his disposal as best as possible, so as to be able to follow what his teammate is doing in these first rounds of the season.

“I'm giving 100% behind the wheel of the A521, but at the moment it's not enough to be at the same level as Esteban,” said the two-time World Champion. “I have to continue working and we have talked about this with the team in recent weeks. The thing that reassures me is that other riders are also experiencing or have experienced this situation. For example, Carlos Sainz wasn't as fast as Nico Hülkenberg in the first two races in Renault and the same happened to Daniel Ricciardo for a good part of 2019, whereas last year he was very fast."

“Esteban also suffered in 2020 against Daniel while this year he is very strong. When you arrive at a new team you need a margin of time to adapt and personally I'm trying to do it as quickly as possible. Like I said I'm not too worried. The results will arrive very soon and so far it must be said that we have practically arrived together in both Imola and Portimão", he concluded.
