Vandoorne: "I hope to avoid the penalty"

F1 | Alonso expects to start last in Mexico

Following the power unit failure during the grand prix of Austin, the pilot of the McLaren, suspects a grid penalty.

Despite the withdrawal, Fernando Alonso he defined the race in America as "sublime" as up to that point he was defending seventh position. The English team could opt for a further upgrade to the engine and this would mean starting from the rear.

“It will certainly be a difficult weekend for us -commented the Spaniard- I expect to start from the back due to the engine problem in Austin. Furthermore, on this track we often struggle with traffic which makes overtaking very difficult. But if we look at the positive side, on Friday in Austin we tested some new components and we were happy so we hope to continue in this direction in Mexico too".

Stoffel vandoorne he hopes to avoid a grid penalty but apart from that, he expects a difficult race:

“For McLaren, the race in Mexico will be complicated due to the long straight and the high altitude, two characteristics that have a significant impact on the weekend. Since I changed the power unit on Sunday in Austin, I hope I won't have any penalties but we have to wait until Friday to have confirmation.".
