F1 | Alonso: “McLaren will be competitive in 2019”

The Spanish driver is sure that the English team will change its fortunes and will return to compete next season.

After 17 years of career, Fernando Alonso he will leave Formula 1 to dedicate himself entirely to his goal of winning the Triple Crown but he is convinced that McLaren, will be able to have a better car after years of difficulty:

“It's a private thing in the team -commented the two-time world champion to Formula1.com- but we definitely took some directions into this project that weren't yielding the results we expected. Many compromises were made on the car, with the hope of seeing results in performance but they did not arrive. As, we only took the negative side of those decisions, so next year should be much better, we learned our lesson.”

“I think the car will definitely be more competitive next year. Starting in July, we've been testing experimental parts ahead of next year. I think there's a lot of optimism in the team with the direction the car has taken in the last couple of months. We understood our problems. We know that last year, the car was very competitive on the chassis side. We lost some of that competitiveness this year; now we know why. I think next year, the team will be in a much better position and I'm happy for them."
