F1 | Alonso, ongoing discussions with Williams for 2018

Despite McLaren's wishes, Fernando Alonso could soon end his experience in Woking. Speaking on the issue on Thursday, the Spaniard explained that he has not yet made any decisions regarding his future and that he will wait until September to close a possible contract. The objective is clear: to continue in Formula One with a winning project. According to what "radio paddock" reports, however, Alonso is in negotiations with Williams for a seat next season. Auto Motor Und Sport reported the news today, underlining that there are ongoing discussions between Claire Williams and the Spaniard's management regarding a possible partnership starting in 2018.

Williams would be an excellent option for the former Ferrari, especially if we consider the Mercedes supply, the "blocked" seats of Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes, the lots of money invested by Lawrance Stroll in the team and a first level structure that has already convinced in past seasons. The Canadian manager would like to place Alonso alongside his son, Lance, to help him in his professional growth and would be willing to pay him the 25 million salary from his own pocket, without thinking about the team's coffers. In short, a complex negotiation which could however lead to sensational implications. We just have to wait and see how this situation will evolve, although one thing is certain: Alonso has no intention of abandoning the Formula One circus.
