F1 | Alfa Romeo, Vasseur: "In the future we could return to having a Ferrari driver"

Since Alfa Romeo's return to Formula 1, Sauber has always fielded a driver from the Ferrari Academy on the track: Charles Leclerc (2018) and Antonio Giovinazzi (2019-21). With the farewell of the driver from Martina Franca, who in the new season will be involved in Formula E with the Dragon team, the Biscione team has decided to change its philosophy and in fact in 2022 it will present itself with the new line up formed by Valtteri Bottas and debutant Guanyu Zhou.

On the subject, TP Frederic Vasseur specified that the collaboration with Ferrari could resume in the future, as regards the "loan" of drivers, underlining how Maranello does not have the need to launch rookies in the Circus every season.

"It is not because we decided to choose another option that we will not have the opportunity to work with Ferrari again in the future – declared Vasseur, interviewed by Autosport – You have to look at it on a case-by-case basis because you can't plan collaboration with pilots for the next 10 years and say: 'Ok, for the next 10 years you'll have a rookie. Ferrari doesn't need to have a driver who debuts in Formula 1 every year".
