F1 | Alfa Romeo, Valtteri Bottas: “We made the wrong choice”

Disappointing qualifying for Valtteri Bottas and Alfa Romeo, more than anything unexpected after the results of FP1. In fact, in the first free practice session, Bottas managed to set the ninth best time. What compromised his hopes in qualifying was an error in evaluating the tires suitable for the complicated conditions: the Hinwiil team insisted on the intermediates, but it was the softs, however, that were best suited to the track in Q1. Bottas thus only clocked the eighteenth time, but there is still the Sprint Race to recover positions in view of the race.

"It's a disappointing result, especially after the excellent performances in FP1. In the end, we opted for the intermediates in the pit and it was the wrong choice: on my entry lap I saw the Williams struggling and I decided to stay on the intermediates – explained the Finn – in the end, we understood that the softs would be ideal and I returned to the pit, but two laps were not enough to bring those tires to the right temperature. However, we can still fight for it: we have two days left to earn those points and, given our pace in the dry today, I'd say we still have a chance to take home the points".
