F1 | Alfa Romeo, Raikkonen: “We must be happy”

In the crazy race at Mugello which ended after three restarts, the Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN driver, Kimi Raikkonen, finished in a satisfying ninth place, despite the 5 second penalty for an infringement when entering the pit lane.

“It definitely wasn't the smoothest race but in the end we managed to bring home some points, so we can be happy about that. My race started quite badly, I'm not sure what exactly happened in turn two but I got hit and took a lot of damage. Whoever hit me probably didn't expect the group to slow down as much as we did, but in any case the accident took away part of my bottom and my front wing. The damage made the handling of the car very bad and we struggled with the balance: we lost a lot of downforce but in the end we still managed to push at a decent pace. I made a slow pit stop but luckily the second red flag brought us back into battle. Then I got a penalty for crossing the pit entry line, which didn't help, but after the second red flag I was still able to do some good laps and in the end I only lost one position. It wasn't a perfect race but despite all the problems, we still brought home two important points. It's a bit of a shame because we made good progress and I think we could have finished even higher with a problem-free afternoon, but we hope to improve in the next events.”

Unlucky race for Antonio Giovinazzi, involved in a collision on the straight after the Safety Car came out:

“It's really frustrating to finish a race like this, without actually having done a single lap, although I'm happy for the team who scored points. I had made another good start, recovering up to 14th place: I felt comfortable in the car and who knows how the race could have gone. I can't say much about the accident except that it was a very dangerous situation. Everyone around me was already at full speed, but suddenly Magnussen almost stopped in the middle of the track. Latifi avoided it but I didn't have time, I hit the left rear. Luckily, no one was injured, but it was a very dangerous accident. With such a long straight, this will always be a problem and we need to think about how to avoid this situation happening again in the future.".
