F1 | Alfa Romeo, Antonio Giovinazzi: “We want to repeat the results of Jeddah”

Positive start for the Apulian, at his last Formula 1 Grand Prix

F1 | Alfa Romeo, Antonio Giovinazzi: “We want to repeat the results of Jeddah”

Not just a world challenge, Abu Dhabi will also be the scene of farewells on Sunday, and in this case the attention is focused entirely on the Alfa Romeo garage. Kimi Raikkonen will definitively say goodbye to the Circus after twenty years, while Antonio Giovinazzi forcibly turns his back on Formula 1, hoping that this is just a goodbye. The two were teammates for three seasons, but in previous years Antonio had the opportunity to work with the Finn in the Ferrari garage. And even more touching, therefore, is Giovinazzi's gesture, which puts aside his farewell and pays homage to the one who moved him as a child, going on to win the last world title of his favorite team. After the great race in Jeddah, Antonio is determined to conclude his Formula 1 adventure in style; the results on the track for now are not as exciting as those of last weekend, but the Apulian finished the first free practice session in fourteenth position, just behind Kimi Raikkonen, while in FP2 he improved to reach twelfth.

F1 | Free practice analysis in Abu Dhabi: Verstappen flies on the soft tires, is Mercedes hiding?

"Our weekend got off to a good start and, all in all, it was a good day. We made good improvements between the two sessions and, if we can repeat that, we should be in a good situation for qualifying – said Antonio at the end of the day – this new track is very nice, fun to drive after the replacement of the slow chicanes, which weren't all that exciting with these cars. I'm not sure if the new fast corners help us with overtaking, but the lap is still faster. Tomorrow will be interesting: we want to continue along the same lines after the good result in Jeddah, the fight in the middle of the group will be tight and everything will be played out on a few cents, but I'm confident".
