New medical bulletin: stable hemodynamic and metabolic parameters, the neurological picture remains serious
The hours of apprehension continue over the health conditions of Alex Zanardi, who was involved in an accident yesterday afternoon terrible accident while he was with other Paralympic athletes competing in a stage of the Objective tricolor relay.
According to what was reported by the national paracycling coach, Mario Valentini, Zanardi lost control of his handbike and hit his head with a truck coming from the opposite side. Alex was transported by air ambulance to the Le Scotte Hospital in Siena in Code 3 and after checks, his condition was judged to be very serious. He underwent delicate neurosurgical and maxillofacial surgery. Now he is in intensive care, with a reserved prognosis.

“Regarding the clinical conditions of the athlete Alex Zanardi, hospitalized since 18pm on 19 June in very serious conditions at the Santa Maria alle Scotte polyclinic following a road accident which occurred in the province of Siena, the Health Directorate of the Aou Senese informs that the patient , who underwent a delicate neurosurgical operation on the evening of June 19th, and was subsequently transferred to intensive care, has stable hemodynamic and metabolic parameters. He is intubated and supported by artificial ventilation while his neurological condition remains serious."
