F1 | Sainz: “I have everything to become world champion”
"I want to become one soon", the Spaniard's comment
Just a few more races and Carlos Sainz will leave Maranello after four seasons together to join Williams. The Spanish driver, interviewed by “The Strait Times” admitted that he will not give up on his dream of winning the title as he believes he has all it takes to do so, car permitting.
"I want to become world champion soon and I know I have all the necessary characteristics to succeed. If one day they give me a right car, in the right place and at the right time, I will be able to win."
The goal for 2025, however, is much more realistic as Sainz is aware that he is getting behind the wheel of a car on which there is a lot of work to be done but, as James Vowles, team principal of the Grove team, recently said, next season for the Spaniard will mostly be a transition year with a view to 2026 when the new regulations will come into force.
“I have a very big goal for the future: to grow Williams and bring the team back to winning ways, but my eyes are always on the short-term goals.”
