F1 2014: here is the penalty system for the new V6 turbo engines

The new F1 sporting regulations also define how grid penalties will be applied for the 2014 season with the new 6-litre turbo V1.6 engines.
In 2014 the power unit will be divided into six separate modules with a maximum of five examples allowed during the season.

These elements are the combustion engine, the generator of the energy recovery unit, the generator for the electric motor, the energy accumulator, the turbo and the control electronics.

When a team uses the sixth example of any of the six modules it will suffer a ten grid place penalty, and after the sixth example a five place grid penalty will be imposed.

For the seventh and eighth specimen a penalty of ten and five positions will be imposed respectively and so on for the subsequent specimens. If the entire power unit is replaced the driver will have to start from the pitlane.

If a driver has qualified too far back on the grid to serve the full penalty, the missing positions will be discounted in the following GP.

Another change concerns the gearboxes: they will have to be used for six consecutive GPs.
