Ecclestone: “The return of the Austrian GP is possible”

Bernie Ecclestone said he would be happy to bring Formula 1 back to Austria. Red Bull tycoon Dietrich Mateschitz renovated the A1-Ring after purchasing it and renamed it the Red Bull Ring.

Michael Schumacher recently declared in Turkey that he "sees no reason" why the Austrian Zeltweg circuit should not be reinserted into the calendar.

Mateschitz admitted that the chances of bringing F1 back to Austria "are decidedly slim" but the new circuit has received F1 approval.

The new facility, with a design substantially similar to that of the last GP in 2003, should reopen this week and Bernie Ecclestone said he was happy.

“It's positive that the circuit is ready to reopen its doors,” the eighty-year-old told the APA agency.

“We always went there with pleasure. We have always loved Austria,” added Ecclestone.

And on a possible return of F1 to the country he declared: "Everything is possible."

Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari team boss, declared over the weekend in Istanbul that one of the changes wanted by the teams for the new Concorde Agreement is "the return to some European circuits".
