Ecclestone threatens to sue Ferrari if he leaves F1

In Monaco Bernie Ecclestone threatened Ferrari if the Maranello team were to abandon F1 at the end of the year. After the Paris court session this week, it emerged from the verdict against Ferrari that the Maranello team has a binding commercial agreement with the FIA and F1's commercial rights holders.

Ecclestone said he had no doubts about Ferrari's commitment to F1: “We will always respect our contracts. All the teams that have signed contracts with us expect us to respect them and we expect the same from Ferrari. They say they want to talk, we say we hope they respect the contracts,” said the Briton.

Ecclestone is believed to have already written to Montezemolo, warning him that if Ferrari were to break their contracts by leaving the category, they would have the right to reclaim the millions already paid to the Italian team for the commercial rights.

The teams will meet this Friday on Flavio Briatore's yacht, parked in the port of Monaco. One of the topics covered will be the response to be given to Mosley regarding the £40m budget ceiling.
