Domenicali approves the tests for the new tires

Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari team principal, said he agreed with the proposal put forward by FOTA technical manager Ross Brawn to hold a specific test session to test the new tires for the 2011 season.

Although the name of the tire supplier for next season is still unknown (Pirelli is still in pole position) many teams are putting pressure on the FIA to set a date "in late summer, or early winter" according to the words by Brawn, to allow the teams to become familiar with the new tires.

The OK from the FIA is essential: the regulation in fact prohibits the carrying out of seasonal tests starting from the Monday preceding the first Grand Prix of the season, until December 31st of the same year.

“Yes, I am convinced that testing will be a priority. We have to discuss it with the new supplier as soon as we have decided what it will be" said Domenicali.

For its part, Brawn added: “Obviously we need specific tests to make sure that the tires fit the cars well. We absolutely cannot afford to have problems with the tyres."

“We're here to help the new supplier and I really think we can do a great job,” concluded Brawn.
