Domenicali: “we wanted to win in Monza to repay the incredible support of our fans”

The comment of the Ferrari Team Principal, Stefano Domenicali, at the end of the Monza Grand Prix in which the two Ferrari drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, crossed the finish line in second and fourth position respectively.

Stefano Domenicali: “Today we fought with every means possible to try to stay close to the race leader, but considering Vettel's performance we couldn't have achieved more and my compliments go to him. We know well that we are facing very strong opponents, but I am happy to have seen a competitive Ferrari, the only team that tried to put pressure on Red Bull. It's normal to feel a bit of regret, because here in Monza we wanted to win to repay the incredible support of our fans, a great incentive to never give up. The gap in the Drivers' classification has increased, but in the Constructors' classification we managed to move back into second position, and seeing four Ferrari engines in the top seven at the finish line is also an extremely important result. Now we must maintain this form and know how to take advantage of any opportunity that may arise, counting on reliability, which will play an important factor between now and the end of the championship, and trusting in good luck. Today Fernando was the protagonist of an impeccable race, in which he was able to manage the pressure of a very competitive Webber and second place is the result of his great tenacity. I'm very sorry for Felipe because he drove an excellent race, coming close to a podium that he would have deserved. Looking ahead, Singapore represents an important stage in understanding our level of competitiveness on a circuit with high downforce: the outcome of that Grand Prix will be decisive in drawing all the conclusions related to the progressive shift of our resources to the 2014 project.
