Coulthard: The accident was a great marketing move for Red Bull

The accident between Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber was an “excellent” marketing move for Red Bull. This was said by David Coulthard, Mark Webber's former teammate at the Austrian team and currently the team's ambassador.

Asked by German publication Bild for comment on the Vettel/Webber controversy, the veteran Scot said: “From a Marketing perspective it was excellent. The whole world is talking about Red Bull.”

However, Coulthard admits that from the world championship's point of view, the episode was disastrous.

“Definitely,” he said. “But everyone did what had to be done.”

Unlike those who have looked for someone to blame for the accident, the former driver believes that what happened is part of the racing world.

“Tell me the name of a driver who would take his foot off the accelerator,” Coulthard asked. “It's like giving a child ice cream and then telling him not to eat it.”

The Scotsman said the pair should "pay more attention to each other" during future wheel-to-wheel duels, before playing down rumors of an enmity between Webber and Vettel.

“They were never best friends,” Coulthard revealed to n-tv.de. “And why should they be? Just because they're on the same team?

“I think they have a good working relationship and a lot of respect for each other's talents,” he added.
