The nightmare moment continues for McLaren: Alonso forced to change the power unit after the first free practice at Silverstone

The nightmare moment continues for McLaren in this central part of the 2016 championship. After the first free practice sessions on the Silverstone track, in fact, Fernando Alonso had to miss much of the afternoon session due to a problem with the unit mounted in Canada, an aspect which forced the Woking Scuderia technicians to replace the entire power unit on the Iberian's MP4-30.

A technical problem not foreseen by the Japanese engineers, given that McLaren had already replaced the units on Alonso and Button's cars during the last Canadian Grand Prix, bringing the famous upgrade studied in recent months to the track.

This new problem of a technical nature, obviously, casts shadows on the work carried out by Honda during 2016, creating further tensions and cracks in a combination that to date has not met expectations, collecting many retirements and very few results.

It should be noted that for all the necessary checks, the power train was dismantled and sent to Sakura, where the engineers will carry out all the necessary checks. Given what a move, therefore, the Spaniard will take to the track with the power unit that faced the Austrian, Azerbaijan, Monaco and Canadian GPs, effectively increasing the risks linked to reliability.

Obviously, since we are talking about an already successful unit, the two-time World Champion will not have to serve any grid penalties.
