Claire Williams: “Affected by Brexit”
Negotiations with sponsors have slowed down and bills are more expensive due to the collapse of the pound
The news of England's exit from the European Union came just a few weeks ago and yet Williams has already begun to suffer from the economic backlash of the affair linked to the collapse of the pound.
“The short-term impact is proving to be enormous because we pay a large part of our invoices in euros” – admitted deputy team principal Claire Williams.
“If I think about all the discussions with the engine manufacturers and the FIA to try to lower the costs of the power units by at least four million between now and 2018, I feel really worried. What is gained will be lost due to the decrease in the value of the currency” – he argued.
“Among other things, several sponsors interested in supporting us, due to political instability, preferred to leave the negotiation on standby. To be clear, before the referendum we were in discussions with some companies, but following the result everything slowed down. Not being a top team and not having a large budget, this situation could create difficulties for us from here on out” – the bitter realization of the 39-year-old manager.
