Ceccon immediately convincing with Toro Rosso in Abu Dhabi

Convincing debut in F.1 for the Auto GP champion: Kevin Ceccon, on track in Abu Dhabi with Scuderia Toro Rosso for the rookie test, had an excellent first day of testing with the Faenza team.

The 18-year-old from Bergamo, who had already performed well in GP2 last weekend with two points finishes (5th in Race 1, 6th in Race 2), has in fact fully satisfied the team's expectations, completing the race program without any hitches. day.
The team's objective was to carry out important technical work focused both on the last race of the season in Brazil, in which Toro Rosso will compete for seventh position in the constructors' standings with Sauber, and on the evaluation of some solutions for 2012. in combination with the new Pirelli tyres.
Kevin completed a total of 97 laps between the morning and afternoon sessions, thus exceeding the 500 km threshold needed to obtain the Super License. The driver from Clusone used the mobile rear wing but without ever fitting Supersoft tires or activating the KERS, given that the team's work was focused on other areas of the single-seater and was never aimed at pure performance.
The Auto GP champion was then able to carry out long runs alongside pit stop and start tests, accumulating experience and earning praise from Toro Rosso chief engineer Laurent Mekies, who commented on the Auto GP champion's work thus : “In the morning we concentrated on the aerodynamic tests while in the afternoon the work was focused on the tyres. While yesterday our program had been based on short outings, today Ceccon tried something very similar to a real Grand Prix, given that we did a race simulation right in the hottest hours of the day. Even though we asked a lot of him, entrusting him with a truly complex test program, Kevin completed it without the slightest error."

Kevin Ceccon: “For me it was an incredible experience, and I'm not just talking about driving an F.1 car but also about working with Scuderia Toro Rosso, who I want to thank for this incredible opportunity. We worked a lot today, testing various parts for the car and the Pirelli tires for next year, doing comparative tests with those used this season. I did two long runs in which I was able to learn a lot, and it is above all from this point of view that this experience is proving to be invaluable. I hope to make further progress tomorrow afternoon, both from a personal point of view and to help the team with its development work."
