Caterham, Van der Garde: “Crazy race!”

It was a rather eventful Monaco GP Caterham with the mechanics immediately put to work to fix the nose of the CT03 Van der Garde, at the start the protagonist of a collision with Maldonado and a handful of laps later retired with Pic stopped at the edge of the track in a cloud of smoke.

“It was really disappointing to see my race end so soon, especially considering the good start that had put me in fifteenth position ahead of Gutierrez and just behind Di Resta – he said Charles – The gearbox broke and furthermore due to the overheating of the exhausts there was also the start of a fire. From the images, however, the situation appeared more dramatic than it actually was. I immediately felt that there was something wrong and as soon as the car stopped the marshals intervened promptly, thus avoiding the entry of the safety car. In general I have to say that the weekend was positive, the car was working well and the degradation of the tires was also good. Our plan was to make just one stop in order to aim for the center of the group, however now we go to Canada and I think we can show our progress there with a little more luck."

“It's been a crazy ride! - he has declared Giedo, 15th – I started well, but Pastor hit me forcing me to pit on the first lap and when I came out I was twenty-second. I had a good pace, I tried to recover, but then during the tenth lap I lost the KERS. Luckily we managed to fix it and when the safety car came out for Massa's accident I was doubled up. Later after the red flag I started to move up, with the second safety car and Chilton's drive through, I found myself fourteenth, but after thirteen laps on the soft tires I had to give up a place. Considering what happened to us, having seen the finish line is already a good thing even though we aspired to something better given the conditions of Saturday. All in all it was a good weekend where I learned a lot."
