Caterham: Cyril Abiteboul new team principal

Cyril Abiteboul has replaced Tony Fernandes as Caterham's new F1 team principal with immediate effect. Abiteboul arrived in September last year with the role of CEO and will now combine that role with the position of team boss.

Fernandes had confirmed on Tuesday his resignation as team principal to focus more on the company's road car business following the agreement with Renault which will see Caterham and the French company collaborate, in a 50/XNUMX joint venture, on the development of the new Alpine models .

“I am honored to take on the role of team principal, I will now combine this role with that of CEO assumed in 2012, I would like to thank Tony and Kamarudin for the opportunity to lead this team in the next phase of its growth” declared Abiteboul, with Renault Sport until to last season.

“We have great challenges ahead of us but the shareholders are determined and support us in making significant steps forward in the coming years, to one day reach the highest levels in F1. We have an incredible spirit in this team created by Tony and Kamarudin. This spirit, together with a strategic vision that gives us a clear path to follow towards success, will continue to guide us until we reach the day when we realize our shareholders' dream."
