Caterham with Renault engines for another 3 years

The Caterham team has extended its Formula 1 partnership agreement with Formula Renault to supply engines for the next three years.

Ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, the Leafield-based team has announced that it has extended the agreement which originally began in 2011.

Caterham and Renault had already entered into a collaboration on the development of future road cars and so there was never any doubt that the team would continue with its current engine supplier for the next few years.

Caterham team principal Cyril Abiteboul said: “This announcement is obviously good news for our F1 team and is a reflection of the deep links that have been forged between our two companies since 2011, particularly with the of road cars that we launched in 2012 between Caterham and Alpine, which is now in an advanced stage of development. ”

The announcement means that only Sauber and Lotus have not officially confirmed their plans regarding the supply of engines with the new regulations in 2014.

Sauber will be a Ferrari customer, with an announcement expected shortly, while Lotus is expected to remain with Renault, but discussions are ongoing about the French carmaker potentially expanding the brand's presence in the team.
