Button doesn't rule out a McLaren victory

Jenson Button said he was optimistic about a possible victory for McLaren at the Formula 1 Indian GP despite Ferrari and Red Bull appearing in better shape in free practice on Friday.

“We hope to fight for a win this weekend,” said Button. “Whether we are fast enough or not, we will find out on Sunday. But that's what we're working on now, obviously. And if we sat here saying we're going to be third or fourth it would be a bit depressing, so we have to be positive."

“I think the Ferraris are very fast. Whether they will be much faster I don't know. I don't know what Lewis did on his lap, but on my best lap I lost about 3 tenths with the traffic in the last sector. And in my run on new tires I tried a set-up change that didn't work. We went back for the long-run and the car looked fantastic. I'm really happy with the pace. The Red Bulls are always fast, even if they don't seem competitive on Friday or Saturday morning, they are fast on Sunday. Ferrari are surprisingly fast, they will be competitive this weekend so it will be a great challenge to fight with Red Bull and Ferrari. The circuit? I still don't know whether to put it among the best like Suzuka and Spa, but it's really fun to drive here. It's fast, smooth. Aside from the dirt on the track, I think they did a fantastic job with the layout of the track."
