Button: “McLaren in form in Abu Dhabi”

Jenson Button is optimistic at the end of Friday free practice for the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi GP. The Englishman achieved the second and third times in today's two sessions.

“In general our car went very well today, we are certainly in better shape here than in India last weekend. Everything seems to work well and the car is easy to drive. There are some small areas to improve but we know how to do it,” said Button.

“It will be crucial to make the Options tires work well for tomorrow's qualifying. I wanted to do a lot of laps during my long run today, since I had missed the chance to do long runs in India, and this affected me for the rest of the weekend in Delhi. I'm happy to confirm that our car is reasonably competitive here on long runs, so now we need to focus on understanding how we can make the most of the tire on a long run,” he added.

  • The hope for those at McLaren is not to repeat certain past situations when, after a Friday where only a few small adjustments were enough, we moved on to a Saturday where the car suddenly lost grip and traction. In short... let's hope I don't mess around too much with the arrangements.
