Button: “McLaren must improve in qualifying”

Jenson Button believes his McLaren team could start to “dictate the pace in the race” if they can only improve their qualifying speed in the coming races.

Button took third place in the Monaco Grand Prix, although he appeared the favorite to win the race.

“There's real momentum in our team at the moment – I think we've had a good car to win in Spain and Monaco, with a little improvement in our qualifying, I think we can start to dictate the pace in the race, which has been something we were able to show briefly in both of the last two races,” said Button.

“However, I am very satisfied with my performance in Monte Carlo. It wasn't a victory, but it was a good race for me.”

Button is optimistic about his chances for the Canadian Grand Prix, where it is reckoned McLaren will have the speed to win.

“I've never won in North America and I think we have the pace, the development and the good time to change things next weekend. I'm really looking forward to it."

Teammate Lewis Hamilton is confident about the team's prospects for Montreal.

“Our car should be suited to this track, we have a great engine, the best KERS hybrid system in F1 and excellent traction in slow corners,” he said.

“All in all, it looks like it's going to be another good weekend for us – I'll be looking for a good result on Sunday.”
