Button: “I got everything I could out of the car”

Jenson Button admitted that his fastest lap for the Japanese Grand Prix would be enough for pole, as the Briton got everything he could out of his car.

The McLaren driver came very close to Sebastian Vettel in the race for pole position at the Japanese Grand Prix. The German beat Button by 0.009 thousandths of a second.

The Briton said he had extracted everything he could from his McLaren but was delighted to be very close to Vettel, given that Red Bull seemed to be the clear favourite.

“It was a pretty good weekend for us. I really enjoy driving here, Suzuka is a phenomenal circuit, and when the car works here, the situation becomes ideal."

“In Q3 I thought my lap was enough for pole, but that wasn't the case.”

“I got everything I could out of the car. I had a bit of oversteer on the last lap, maybe because I was pulling too much. It's great for the team to be so close to Red Bull on a circuit where they could have dominated."
