Button: “Race ruined by time lost behind Massa”

Jenson Button admitted that laps lost behind Felipe Massa ruined his chances of a better result at the Australian Grand Prix, which the McLaren Englishman finished in sixth place.

“I made a good start, I was surprised by Vitaly Petrov's attack on the inside, he made a great start and forced me to go wide. Then I got stuck behind Felipe Massa, because I came out of the first corner badly, and that was the worst moment of my race, because he was slow and it was difficult to overtake. He really slowed me down,” Button explained.

“I tried to overtake him on the outside of turn 11. I was in front before I swerved but he pushed me to go wide and I couldn't keep a normal line. After the drive-through I had to fight to get back on, it was fun but also frustrating. I wanted to make the best of this day but at least Lewis did a good job. We should be very happy with our pace today. We will have updates for the next race but the car is still very new, and there are a lot of changes that can be made to this package. We should be very happy with this weekend, I would just have preferred to score more points” concluded Button.
