The Briton looks back to 2004: 10-litre V3 engines, 900 horsepower on the cars and tire war

Button: “Future? The pilots should also be consulted."

Just a week ago it ended the survey born from an idea of the Grand Prix Drivers Association, intended for all fans who follow Formula 1. The online format has collected responses from over 200 thousand fans from 194 different countries who expressed their opinions and made their own suggestions to understand which path the future of Formula 1 should continue towards. After hearing what the fans think, the drivers hope that Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA will decide to also consult the protagonists of the Category when the time comes to sit down at a table to understand how to edit Formula 1 in the future.

One of the most active from this point of view is certainly Jenson Button: “I'm not sure it will be done. The drivers, racing on the track, they have a lot of ideas and opinions to improve our sport – commented the McLaren driver – I think there is a lot to do but, if they want, we could put our experience in the hands of the FIA. Some of us have driven in Formula 1, back in the days of legendary V10s, we have seen some changes and we are sure we can help in this sense."

The Briton, with a hint of melancholy, wanted to remember the early 2000s, from his point of view the best times experienced by Formula 1 since Button himself made his first appearance in the Circus: “From the pure driving point of view best year ever was the 2004 – continued the 2009 World Champion – We had at our disposal the 10-litre V3 engines, 900 horsepower in a situation of war between tire suppliers. That was it a fantastic season but I am aware that times change and that the issue of costs must also be kept in mind”, he concluded.
